In Quetzalcoatl’s work, his artistic vision is shaped precisely by how he identifies himself with the pictorial medium.
His individual stylistic development is noted by his skillful strokes in the strength of his lines and texture impastos. The process of his work is shown through his handling of pictorial surfaces along with use of pigmentation in different ways. This use of pigmentation reflects an intense process.
By means of his paintings, the artist shows his subjectivity while waking up emotions in the viewer. Using diluted paint applied with a brush or pencil in areas like the background, in the details in the impasto; and his use of scraping with lines proves his immense concentration and dedication as an artist. In his
latest
work
Quetzalcoatl
has
demonstrated
his
consistency
in the
portrayal
of the
feminine
as an
image
both
erotic
and
symbolic
of the
tribulations
of
modern
womanhood,
as well
as the
seduction
of the
female
psyche.
Their
female
imagery
revealed
their
particular
time and
place in
history
and how
Quetzalcoatl
reveals
his own
vision
of the
XXI
century.
Quetzalcoatl,
who is
always
attuned
to what
it is
happening
in
Puerto
Rico as
well as
in the
world
presents
the
problems
of a
society
in which
crime,
greed,
the
exploitations
of the
female
by the
male, of
the
young by
the old
and the
objectification
of the
human
being
all
hidden
behind
masks of
beautiful
faces
that
makes us
pause to
think
about
what the
artist
means in
his
paintings.
They are
done in
a semi
serious
as well
as very
profound
manner
in order
to make
you
think
beyond
what you
see and
in many
cases to
even
question
what you
think
the work
of art
really
means.
In
attempting
to
decipher
Quetzalcoatl’s
latest
paintings
we have
tried to
penetrate
inside
the
psyche
of an
artist
that
playfully
tackles
some
very
difficult
issues
on the
themes
of the
feminine,
sexuality,
violence
and
contemporary
issues
of lives
lived
within
the
present
society.
In this
society
the
search
for
money
and the
everlasting
beauty
that it
can buy
along
with
luxury
goods
and
power
are
constantly
presented
through
the
female
figures
to which
he
lovingly
refers
to, as
“they
are so
gorgeous”.

Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico in 1971. His father, in tribute to the Mexican god that symbolizes freedom, named him Quetzalcoatl. In 1983, Quetzalcoatl began his career at the Andy Bueso Art Academy. Later, he studies with the Spanish painter
José Azaustre, following studies in New York at Pratt Institute and later in FIT.
Quetzalcoatl names his works with willing creativity according to his experiences in life. This poetic and emotive artist likes to paint according to the feelings he experiments invoking an emotional state as he reflects over his life experiences. His works are full of enthusiasm and optimism, which is a part of his personality. Quetzalcoatl presents us in his expressionist form with well thought out works full of energy with a mastering technique of color. |
