“Abstraction, the way I express what I feel. My ideas, my feeling, my reaction to the environment that surrounds me. My experiments in life, the feeling produced by daily experiences, my beliefs, my reaffirmation in FAITH and in LIFE and how I relate them to my Island: its sun, its light, its sky, its people, and the firm roots of Caribbean strength. Abstraction, which uses art’s vocabulary in itself: lines, forms, color, texture,
light, and shadow and what all these can express. Abstraction that using art’s vocabulary in a very personal way can express, without using realist images, an introspective feeling, an atmosphere, a feeling of rhythm, space and time, concepts that make up the universe…that is my language”.
Noemí
Ruiz
Noemí
Ruiz is considered an impelling artist of abstract art in Puerto Rico taking abstract to new levels. Her work is distinguished by a tension between geometric and organic forms; some are rigid forms and others are softened by curved lines; plain spaces with volume; soft gradation of warm colors, but opaque and sparkling with luminosity between smooth surfaces and spirited and expressive brushes… Her works are exactly about the inherent tension in forms and the dynamism provoked by those…

Noemí
contributes with her unique visual sensitivity to the interpretation of the Island’s atmosphere creating an exciting amalgam of stimuli that has been a very important part of her plastic language. If we place her contribution in a much ample context, considering her affinity as much as the divergence from contemporary art and the contribution of the masters from previous periods, her contribution to the finishing touches of Latin American painting of the last years of our millennium is indisputable.

“Intention and result combine in the work of Noemí Ruiz to achieve a Latin American and Caribbean presence that proves to be outstanding in contemporary Puerto Rican art”. |
